Abia State Governor Alex Otti has promised full support to the incoming Commandant of the Nigerian Navy College of Accounts and Finance in Owerrinta.

He urged the new officer to build on the work of his predecessor and aim even higher.

Otti also praised the outgoing commandant, Commodore B.U. Quadri, for his professionalism and his contributions to security and institutional growth in the state during his 19 month posting.

The governor made the remarks on Thursday while receiving Quadri and welcoming his successor, Commodore Emmanuel Onu, at his office in Nvosi, Isialangwa South.

Otti said he hopes Onu will do even better than Quadri.

As a great man, he wants you to surpass him.

Small minds want their successors to do worse, but bright minds want their successors to do better, he said.

He promised Onu the same level of support the state gave Quadri.

Alex has also stated that the Navy's success in Abia is also the success of the state and the country.

He encouraged the new commandant to keep in close contact with the state government, especially where state help is needed.

He said security is a shared job for all agencies.

Otti described Quadri as a professional whose work with the state's security structure was commendable.

He also thanked him for his contributions to the monthly Security Council meetings.

Quadri thanked Otti for the support the Navy received during his time in Abia.

Special Adviser on Security Matters, retired Commander MacDonald Uba, said Quadri's 19 month stay fits the Navy's usual posting period of 18 to 24 months.

In his thank-you speech, Onu appreciated the warm welcome and promised to keep up his predecessor's achievements.
