Nigerian politicians have been called selfish set of humans who only think about themselves and their families.

Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II

The Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II, has attacked Nigerian politicians as he labeled them as sefish people

“The bane of leadership in Nigeria is that the leaders are selfish; they only think of their families, “ the Emir said.

He asked the leaders to change their orientation for the good of the country.

Sanusi made the call on Wednesday in Abuja at the award presentation ceremony of ‘Most Security Conscious Governor’ to Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi by the Nigeria Police Force.

“Those of us who think that public office is a place to enjoy ourselves should think again.

The Emir attributed the security challenges being experienced in the country to poverty and lack of education, among other factors.

“Poverty, lack of education is violence; it breeds violence because many segments of the society are denied access to basic amenities,“ he said.

The Emir urged the Federal Government to tackle other forms of security challenges, having recorded a huge success in tackling insurgency in the country. He stressed that security was a big issue in the country.

He said that any state that could not provide its citizens with adequate security was not fit to exist.
“Once a state cannot provide security, it is not fit to be a state,” he said.

The Emir advised Gov. Bello to do more for the people of his state, as to whom much is given, much is expected.

The Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Mr Ibrahim Idris, said the police had recorded outstanding achievements in the area of security since Bello became governor.

“He was the first to donate vehicles to the Nigeria Police Force since I became the I-G,” he said.

Gov. Bello said that before his assumption of office, the security challenges in the state were enormous.

“Kogi State would have been worse than the North-East the way we met it ,’’ Bello said.

He said that the state was safer now compared to when investors would runaway because of security challenges. He dedicated the award to the people of the state and his mother who was once kidnapped for 93 days by kidnappers.

Those who attended the ceremony included traditional rulers, the National Chairman of the APC, Mr John Oyegun, state governors and businessmen.
