Did Ruggedman Endorse SARS? Rapper Lambasts Officer Yomi Shogunle For Posting A 'Fake News'

The internet has been buzzing after Ruggedman publicly called out Assistant Commissioner of Police, Yomi Shogunle after he shared a fake story about him on social media.

TORI News reported on Wednesday that Nigerian rapper, Ruggedman, shared a video highlighting tips on how to identify real officers of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), adding that a lot of people have been impersonating and carrying out terrible acts as SARS officers.

In the viral video, Ruggedman showed that, 'the real sars have a Red scorpion on their cap and jacket with the number 039 on them. Sars units are only allocated 2 riffles. So any group of alleged sars officials you see with more than 2 riffles are fake'.

Few hours later, a popular Lagos Police Officer, Yomi Shogunle took to his Twitter page to announce that the rapper has officially endorsed SARS.

He wrote: "BREAKING NEWS: Nigerian celebrity @RuggedyBaba endorse Federal SARS. The Abia State born rapper today decamped from #EndSARS party and joined #ReformSARS party."

Irked by the announcement by the policeman, the rapper fired back in a scathing statement while lambasting officer Yomi for posting the alleged fake news.

The video used by Yomi Shogunle was actually shared by Ruggedman to help Nigerians identify the real SARS officers and the fake ones, and he was incensed when he saw it being used to pass the wrong message, so he fired back and reiterated that he is all for #EndSARS.

Ruggedman wrote:

"Officer @yomishogunle I have heard about how incompetent and dubious you are but this disgraceful act of yours takes the cake.

This baseless and fabricated post of yours just goes to show you are a shameless liar and a disgrace to the @nigeriapoliceforce.

Since you obviously do not respect the uniform you wear, the innocent people being brutalised daily i never expected you to respect me.

I see your pathetic comments trying to ridicule people who used to come to you for help and I always thought you were a disgrace to that position.

Now I am certain you are.

Do not ever in your life post anything I never said to you about me or on my behalf.

I would have said you take it down but I know my post will reach more people and it will expose you for the lying,decietful and disrespectful man you are.

NIGERIANS I AM ALL FOR #endsars until the force is reformed and reorientated on how to treat people as the humans they are."

The Policeman responded later on Twitter and wrote: "What is fake story or #FakeNews about the Ruggedman video I posted?

So back to my mission with the new OC SARS Lagos state ,CSP Peter Gana. He said a lot of people have been impersonating and carrying out terrible acts as sars officials and he showed me how to spot fake sars. So I thought to share them with my people. 1. The real sars have a Red scorpion on their cap and jacket with the number 039 on them. 2. Sars units are only allocated 2 riffles. Without a proper uniform, anybody (including armed robbers) can buy black t-shirts and print sars on them. 2. They need proper mode of identification e.g. name/number badge to make tracing their station easy. 3. Since they are a special unit with so much negativity around them at the moment, it's best to get them off the streets for now (unless when a special crime is happening) because the brutalisation, extortion, kidnapping and unlawful arrests of innocent Nigerians is too much. We don't have a problem with them dealing with confirmed criminals, but treating innocent Nigerians like animals is turning the country into a ticking time bomb. If you fall victim to the rogue officials, if a video is impossible just try to get a good picture of one of them.
