Members Of Eiye Confraternity Arraigned By Police In Lagos

At least five members of Eiye Confraternity have been arraigned before a court in Lagos state for engaging in cultism.

The Police on Monday charged five persons before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over alleged membership of a secret cult –‘Eiye’ Confraternity.
 
The accused are Edwin Albert, 20; Wasiu Isiaq, 25; Tunde Rilwan, 25; Abduraman Agoro, 18; and Temitope Akinselure, 20. They reside at Amokoko, Ojo, Oshodi, Badiya and Jakande areas of Lagos respectively.
 
The accused are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and belonging to an unlawful society.
 
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Lucky Ihiehie, told the court that the accused and others, still at large, committed the offences on Dec.4 at about 9 :00 pm at Ijora Badia area of Lagos.
 
Ihehie said that the accused and their accomplices conspired to belong to a secret cult called `Eiye’ Confraternity.
 
He said that policemen from the Divisional Police and members of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) arrested the accused following a fight by some boys.
 
The prosecutor said that the accused constituted a problem to the community as they always paraded themselves as cult members.
 
He said the offences contravened Sections 42(a) and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
 
In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje, granted each of the accused N50, 000 bail with one surety in like sum.
 
Kubeinje said that the sureties should be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
 
She adjourned the case until Feb. 11 for mention.
