Shiites Islamic Group Releases Full Name List of 705 Members Allegedly Killed by Army in Zaria

Posted by Odinaka on Tue 26th Jan, 2016 - tori.ng

A list which is reported to be the full names and towns of the Shiites Islamic sect members who were allegedly killed and buries by the Nigerian military in clash in Zaria, Kaduna state has been released by the sect group.

The Islamic Movement of Nigeria also known as shiites, has released 705 names of their members allegedly missing since December 12th and 13th, 2015, when Nigerian soldiers carried out raids on the sect’s bases in Zaria, Kaduna State.

It was widely reported that the raids by military took place after members of the sect barricaded a road, stopping the convoy of Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai. The Army said the force used by the group as the blockade was an attempt on Buratai’s life, thought the Shi’a group denied attacking Buratai.

Witnesses said after killing a sizeable number of its members, the Army returned to the Hussainiyyah base of the Shiites, as well as the resident of group’s leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, in Gyellesu, also in Zaria as altercations that followed led to the death of more members of the group.

El-Zakzaky survived gunshot wounds and was taken away by the military, alongside his wife.

The army has not given an official figure of deaths but Human Rights Watch said in its report that at least 300 members of the Shi’a group were killed. The organisation also said hundreds of victims were secretly buried by the army.
