Ex-Inspector General of Police, Adewusi Dies at 79

A former Inspector General of Police, Sunday Adewusi, passed away yesterday at the National Hospital in Abuja.

The one time Inspector General of Police, Sunday Adewusi is dead. According to sources close to his family, he died on Tuesday night, January 26, at the National Hospital in Abuja.
 
Adewusi, who was born in 1936 would have been 80 years old by December.
 
The Ogbomoso, Oyo State born ex-IG headed the police during President Shehu Shagari’s tenure in the second republic between 1981 and 1983.
 
He was Aide de Camp to Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe when he was the Governor General of Nigeria of Colonial Nigeria. Dr Azikiwe, at Nigeria’s independence in 1960 became the first President of the country.
 
A former Oyo State Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala, who is the late Adewusi’s kinsman from Ogbomoso, confirmed his death.
 
He said:  “The Asiwaju of Ogbomosho, Chief Sunday Adewusi is a father who in no small way contributed to my success in life. He is rare officer and boss who served the Nigerian police force gallantly. His contribution to the image of Police force is still a reference point up till today. He will be sorely missed by the Police, Ogbomosholand, Oyo state and Nigeria in general.
