The Lagos State Police Command has said it was not in a hurry to bury the Assistant Commissioner of Police, who died in a swimming pool while celebrating the St. Valentine's Day with some of his friends.

Late ACP Osung Ekpo

Speaking during an interview on Tuesday with Punch's correspondent, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, said the Lagos State Police Command is not in a hurry to release the corpse of the Assistant Commissioner of Police in Area K Command, Badagry, Osung Ekpo, to the family for burial as it is still awaiting the autopsy result.

It can be recalled that we reported it here on Monday that ACP Ekpo drowned in La Avalon Hotel’s swimming pool in the Ajah area on Valentine’s Day.

The police spokesperson, said no one in the hotel was suspected or arrested, adding that Ekpo was a senior police officer and he could not be buried without following due process.

She said, "If someone dies in active service, there are steps to follow. He was a senior police officer; he was an ACP, and nobody can hurriedly bury him. We will give him a befitting burial.

"It is not true that we arrested the hotel manager. The hotel has also not been sealed off. Except maybe the hoteliers decided to close to mourn him.

"We also do not have a report that he was with female guests. The situation was that the ACP was an active man. I jog every morning too. He used to swim, and he did it in the hotel for years. Maybe his health failed him on that day."
