Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello has announced the dissolution of the seventh assembly of the state.

Governor Bello made this known at the valedictory session of the House held on Monday in Lokoja.

The governor, who appreciated members that served in the sixth and seventh assemblies for their contributions to the House, stressed that the All Progressive Congress (APC) remains a winning team in Kogi State.

While noting that the future is bright for the party, Bello emphasised that there is a need for the outgoing members to activate the spirit of tolerance, irrespective of religion, tribe, or political affiliations.

Bello commended journalists for ensuring factual reportage in promoting peace and tranquillity in the state, assuring that his administration will continue to go after criminal elements in Kogi State.

In his valedictory speech, the outgoing Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Mathew Kolawole, said the seventh assembly lost two members during its tenure. He listed the deceased members as John Abba of Ibaji Constituency and Jimoh Omiata of Yagba East State Constituency. He also said that two members lost their wives, namely himself and the late Ibaji lawmaker.

While appreciating the lawmakers’ support in ensuring the success of the seventh assembly,

Kolawole avowed that the seventh assembly had ensured good governance in the last seven years. The assembly, according to him, passed 1,451 resolutions and 688 regular motions.

Giving a breakdown, the former speaker said the assembly passed 52 bills, 32 of which are executive bills and 20 private members bills. No less than 37 of the bills were passed and assented to by the Kogi State Government, he disclosed.

He further said that two bills are currently awaiting assent, and one bill has been withheld, while 12 other bills are still in various stages of consideration at the end of the Kogi State Seventh House of Assembly.
