Former Kaduna lawmaker, Shehu Sani has called on former Ekiti State governor, Ayo Fayose to tender an apology to Northerners, over his recent statement about people from the region.
Fayose in an interview on Channels TV on Monday, July 29, inferred that poor men having numerous wives and children they cannot cater to is a problem in Nigeria and a huge burden on the government.
In his analogy, he referenced his visit to a Northern state where he interacted with a security guard in a government house who earns N34,000 and has four wives and sixteen children.
Sani like other Northerners, found his comment unacceptable and asked him to apologize.
Reacting in a post on his official X handle on Tuesday, the former lawmaker said Fayose’s statement is ‘’contemptuous and unconscionable.''
“Even though Fayose spoke as an individual, his reported statement on Northerners is contemptuous and unconscionable.
“I suggest he should humbly withdraw it and tender an apology as a statesman”, Sani stated.
Undeterred, Fayose reposted a tweet by his former aide, Lere Olayinka, insisting that his comment is valid.
