A video of dozens of residents from Gobir in Sokoto State storming nearby forests to confront bandits who have been causing havoc in their community, killing and abducting residents has surfaced online.
The residents, determined to rescue 150 abducted individuals, embarked on the mission after losing faith in the ability of security forces to protect them.
The incident follows the brutal killing of Alhaji Isa Muhammad Bawa, the Sarkin Gobir of Gatawa District, who was abducted, tortured, and murdered by bandits on August 21, 2024. The bandits allegedly struck again, kidnapping over 150 mourners in Gobir town just days later.
Despite denials from the Nigerian police regarding the mass abductions, viral videos show the determined residents marching into the forests, chanting war songs and declaring, “It’s a fight to finish! It’s either us or them, no going back.”
