Listen Up! This is Why You Should Not Be Friends with Your Exes

 

There we were thinking we were just friendly – but it turns out people who are friends with their exes might have a dark secret.

 

Specifically, they might be psychopaths – or at least have ‘dark triad’ personality traits, which include narcissism, psychopathy and Machiavellianism.

 

People who stay friends with their exes don’t always do so for ‘nice’ reasons – they might do so to manipulate them, or for money, or for sex.

 

Researchers at Oakland University found that people who scored highly for ‘dark triad’ traits were MORE likely to be friends with their exes.

 

The researchers write, ‘Our findings suggest that post-relationship friendships may provide opportunity for ex-partners to exchange desirable resources (e.g., love, status, information, money, sex) after romantic relationship dissolution.’
