Alex Onuoha, a 28-year-old labourer, who allegedly stabbed another man to death, was on Thursday remanded in prison by an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

The Chief Magistrate, Miss K.O. Ariyo, ordered that the defendant, facing a murder charge, be remanded at the Ikoyi Prisons pending the release of legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPPs).

Ariyo adjourned the case to June 27 pending the receipt of the legal advice.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the plea of the accused, who resides at Liasu Area of Egbe, Lagos, was not taken.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Maria Dauda, had earlier told the court that the accused committed the offence on April 8, at No. 5, Olalekan Street, off Liasu Road in Ikotun, Lagos.

He alleged that the accused fought with 19-year-old Elvis Megwa, now deceased, and his twin brother.

Dauda added that in the process, the accused stabbed him on his neck with a broken bottle.

“The deceased and his twin brother had accosted the accused asking him why he tried to harass their 16-year-old sister who had been sent to get some items across their house.

“This didn’t go down well with the accused who got angry and stabbed Megwa with a broken bottle and also injured Megwa’s twin brother,” she said.

Dauda said the offence contravened Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
