Veteran Nollywood actor Dele Odule has called for public accountability when someone is humiliated in public, saying private apologies do not fix the damage caused.

He shared his views in an online post.

He said anyone who embarrasses another person in public should take responsibility in public too, instead of trying to settle it behind closed doors.

According to him, people should never accept a private apology for public disrespect.

Odule said a private apology does little to restore a person's dignity or correct the picture people formed from the incident.

He added that if someone embarrasses you in front of others, they do not get to repair it in private.

He also suggested that private apologies are sometimes more about easing the offender's conscience than dealing with the harm done.

In his words, the person is not fixing what they did but just trying to feel better.

The actor said respect should be restored in the same place where it was broken, and that the form of an apology should match the nature of the offence.

His post has sparked conversation about public humiliation, personal dignity and the role of accountability in settling conflicts.
