Jigawa Man Arrested After Brother Dies in Petrol Fire

The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old man, Abbas Ibrahim, over the death of his elder brother, Basiru Shuaibu, in a fire in Gwaram Local Government Area of the state.

The incident happened on September 29, 2026, at about 11:30pm in Nassarawa village, Gwaram LGA.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, shared this in a statement on Wednesday.

According to him, the suspect, who claims to be of unsound mind, allegedly jumped into his elder brother's home, poured petrol in his room and set it on fire.

Basiru and his wife were badly burned.

Relatives took the couple to a traditional medicine practitioner for treatment, but Basiru later died from his injuries.

Police began an investigation and arrested Abbas in Sara town, Gwaram LGA.

The case was moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse for further investigation, and the suspect has since been taken to court.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Tijjani Murtala, asked residents to stay calm and not take the law into their own hands.

He also urged the public to report suspicious activities, threats and disputes to the police or other security agencies without delay.
