The Director General of the Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies, MINILS, Comrade Issa Aremu, has said Nigeria's official unemployment rate has fallen to about five percent under President Bola Tinubu.
He spoke in an interview on a morning show online.
According to him, the National Bureau of Statistics, using the methodology of the International Labour Organisation, now puts unemployment at about five percent, down from the double-digit figures recorded before.
Aremu called the drop remarkable.
He said it shows more activity and more jobs in both the public and private sectors.
He gave credit for the improvement to more economic activity, including growth in the downstream oil industry and the rise of modular refineries.
He added that the manufacturing sector has also reported good prospects for creating jobs.
But he stressed that real and lasting industrialisation cannot happen unless the country fixes its energy crisis.
