A Gombe State High Court has sentenced Buhari Sule and Muktari Ali Hilami to death by hanging for armed robbery and the killing of 35-year-old Murtala Rabi'u.
Justice Muhammad-Auwal Haruna gave the judgment at Court No. 5 on Wednesday and found both men guilty of criminal conspiracy, armed robbery and culpable homicide.
The attack happened on September 18, 2025 at Garin Galadima village near Pindiga in Akko Local Government Area.
The prosecution said the two men planned the attack together, armed themselves with sticks and hoes and went after Rabi'u.
They then took his Itel keypad phone, which had no SIM card, and N7,400 in cash.
After dumping his body in a maize farm, they shared the money between themselves.
Both men pleaded not guilty.
The prosecution called two witnesses and the defence called one.
The judge said the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt, mainly relying on the evidence of the first prosecution witness.
He added that the defendants failed to prove their defence.
Justice Haruna then ordered that both men be hanged by the neck until they are dead.
