Operatives from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps have found underground tunnels at a heavily fortified drug hideout in Asaba, Delta State.
The raid took place on Monday, October 12, at Fallingwater Colehouse Yahweh Close, off Akara Junction.
The team spent three days trying to get inside. In the end they used a blowtorch to cut through the roof.
Inside, they found several layers of iron doors and tunnels that the suspects allegedly used to escape when officers came close.
Several suspects got away during the raid.
Officers recovered substances locally known as Loud and Ice, along with PVC gum.
A man named Yakubu was arrested after he came to buy drugs and mistook an officer for a seller.
The command is also checking whether the place was used for kidnapping.
A notebook found at the scene reportedly lists payments to security personnel.
The NSCDC has not named anyone, and the notebook has not been verified.
A nearby resident said people had been visiting the place at odd hours for years.
He wants the building pulled down and the tunnels sealed.
Police say the property is under watch and more arrests are expected.
