Police chief Olatunji Disu says the force will act professionally before, during and after the 2027 general elections.
Speaking to reporters after a book launch in Abuja, he said police commanders had just met to review what went well and what did not in recent elections so the force can do better in the big vote ahead.
He said the force will make Nigerians proud.
He also promised that copies of a new book will go to every police training school so that officers can learn from it.
The book is The Origin of Women in Nigeria Police Force.
It was written by Dame Stella Okuyiga, a 96 year old retired DCP and one of the first 20 women to join the police in 1955.
Disu said she wrote it so that young women in the force would have someone to look up to.
Okuyiga said the book will keep her life's work alive in libraries around the world.
Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara was represented at the launch by Secretary to the State Government Dagogo Wokama.
The book was launched with N20 million.
