Saheed Wahab, a commercial driver, has been arrested.

The man was arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly stabbing his in-law, Yisa Aweda, in the Orile area of the state.

According to Punch Metro, Wahab stabbed 40-year-old Aweda because he reportedly caught him raping his (Wahab’s) two-year-old daughter.

Punch Metro reports that Aweda, who was stabbed with a broken bottle in the neck, had also been arrested for raping the two-year-old.

A social worker with the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Reponse Team, who did not want his name in print, said the matter was reported at the Orile Police Division.

He said, “The incident happened on Friday, November 11. The victim’s mother found the suspect raping her daughter.

“After the girl’s mother raised the alarm, her husband stabbed Aweda.

“He injured the man in the neck. The matter was reported at the Orile Police Station.  Aweda was hospitalised, while Wahab was arrested.”

Punch Metro reports that the girl was also taken to the Mirabel Centre, Ikeja, for a checkup.

The DSVRT Coordinator, Lola Vivour-Adeniyi, said when the suspect recovered, he would be charged to court.

She said, “The matter was reported to the Lagos State DSVRT on November 15 and we visited the Orile Police Station. We also visited the hospital where Aweda is receiving treatment. The office dealing with the case of defilement is different from the case of injury.

“Although, some of the family members wanted the case treated as a family matter, they were informed that the state would prosecute the suspected rapist.”

It was learnt that the Lagos State Office of the Public Defender had also been briefed on the matter and would represent the victim’s father in court.

The Lagos State Police spokesperson, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the incident.
