Good News: WAEC to Release All Withheld Results Today!

Posted by Lolade on Thu 13th Aug, 2015 - tori.ng

WAEC has promised to release the results the body withheld over debts being owed by several states in the country.

The West African Examination Council, WAEC, on Wednesday, August 12, in Abuja said the body had heeded to appeals and would release the withheld results today.

Head of the  WAEC Nigerian National Office, Mr. Charles Eguridu, told newsmen that the council took into consideration the prevailing economic crisis in the country.

The head of the body had alerted the nation that the council might be constrained from releasing the results of the candidates who were sponsored by states indebted to us, unless the affected states offset their indebtedness fully or in part and in the alternative,  produce advance payment guarantees from reputable banks.

“Our decision to open this window of opportunity was as a result of the prevailing economic challenges facing the nation and in order not to jeopardise the educational progress of the candidates of the affected states.

Eguridu said, “However,  following appeals from stakeholders,  including parents, All Nigerian Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), notable Nigerians,  most importantly, the intervention of the Secretariat of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF), which we have been informed is on the directive of its Chairman,  Governor of Zamfara State, Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari,  who has indicated that the forum will positively resolve the matter as soon as possible.”

“We have decided to hearken to the appeals and review our earlier position. More so, the continued withholding of the results will adversely affects the educational prospects of the affected candidates, as the results are, even now, required by many candidates for admission purposes.

“Consequently, the council has decided that the results of the candidates of indebted states would be released in deference to all the appeals and the commitment of the NGF."
