Former Nigerian Minister Maitama Sule is Dead

 

 

The National Chairman of the Northern Elders Forum, Alhaji Maitama Sule is dead. Sule, who has been ill for some time now died in the early hours of today at a hospital in Cairo, Egypt.

 

The Dan Masanin Kano was a respected Elder statesman until his death. Sule's sojourn into Nigerian Politics began in 1976 after he became the Federal Commissioner of public complaints.

 

He decided to contest for the presidency in 1979 under the National party of Nigeria but lost to Shehu Shagari.

 

He was appointed Nigeria's representative to the United Nations after the coming of civilian rule in September 1979. While there he was chairman of the United Nations Special Committee against Apartheid. In 1983, he the Minister for National Guidance.
