Drama as Policeman, 2 Others are Arrested With Ballot Boxes and Papers in Lagos

Police officers have been arrested along with other persons after being nabbed with ballot boxes and papers in Lagos.

Two policemen were arrested yesterday while illegally escorting two men in a commercial bus conveying ballot boxes and ballot papers in Agege Local Government Area, The Sun News reports.

The suspects were taken to Area G Command, Ogba, where they were detained. Another five suspects were arrested for various electoral offenses at Ikeja, and were being interrogated at Area F Police Command as at the time of filing this report.
 
Over 500 men of the joint special security task force comprising the police, military personnel and civil defence corps, were deployed for election duty.

About 200 were on standby at the command headquarters Ikeja. There was low turnout of voters, at Ikeja, Alausa, Ogba,and Agege.
 
The popular Mushin-Isolo road was turned to a football field.

Lagos Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, while deploying the security men had advised them on what they should look out for. Owoseni who was represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, Edgal Imohimi, said they were to ensure that the state witnessed hitch-free election. At ward E, Oregun-Onigbongbon Development Area, the turn out was poor.
 
APC chieftain, Eze Uche Dimgba, said despite the poor turnout of  voters there was no crisis. He reiterated that Lagos is an APC state and would not experience crisis.

There was low turnout in the Shomolu, Bariga and Fola Agoro areas of the state. A member of the House of Representatives, representing Mushin federal constituency 2, Bolaji Usuf Ayinla, described the election as very peaceful.

He said: “Mushin as you know used to be volatile. But check out today, there is peace."
