Police in Lagos have arrested a suspected kidnapper, Yomi Odudare, for allegedly attempting to abduct the Deputy Comptroller of Customs, Mrs. Dorothy Omogbehin, and her family members, according to NewTelegraph.

The kidnapper was arrested by detectives attached to Area ‘D’ Police Command, Mushin, Lagos State. The suspect said he had never met Omogbehin, but was hired by another suspect, Olugbenga Kehinde Ojo, to abduct the woman and her children. Incidentally, Ojo is the former driver to Omogbehin’s uncle. Ojo knows Omogbehin’s cousin, Yisa Theophilus. The latter is the lawyer to the Customs’ officer.

The idea was to abduct Theophilus, and then use him as bait to get Omogbehin and her son. After his arrest, Odudare realised that he was in trouble and started singing like a bird. He disclosed to detectives that Ojo contracted him to kidnap Theophilus and force him to lure out Omogbehin, so that he would abduct her and her children.

It was learnt that immediately Odudare was arrested, he put a call across to Ojo, telling him to meet him that he had successfully abducted Theophilus. Already counting the millions he and Odudare would make from the abductions, Ojo raced to the venue. He walked into the waiting hands of policemen.

According to Theophilus, on June 16, he lodged a complaint at Area D Police Command, Mushin, that someone with unknown phone numbers called him for business, only for him to discover that a former driver to his uncle had planned with some other persons to kidnap Omogbehin and her children as well as his uncle.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Chike Oti, disclosed that immediately the matter was reported, the Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, and the area commander quickly assembled a decoy team which played along with the caller. The caller had been repeatedly calling Theophilus.

Oti said: “The police team ran a quick check on the caller based on available information and came to a conclusion that he was up to something sinister. The policemen later discovered that aside being a notorious criminal in the area, the caller, later discovered to be Yomi Odudare, was into land selling business.

“The policemen invited him to meet them for a land deal and he agreed. The policemen played along with Theophilus and they met the suspect at a project site in Ajah where he was promptly arrested."

During interrogation, the suspect confessed that he had never met the lawyer or any member of his family. He further claimed that the idea to abduct Theophilus, Omogbehin and her son came from Olugbenga Kehinde Ojo, a former driver to the deputy comptroller’s uncle.”

Oti added that the idea was to kidnap the lawyer and force him to lure out Omogbehin. The suspects were said to have later taken the policemen to a shanty, surrounded by water at Eleko, on Lekki-Epe Expre s sway which they prepared as a hostage ground for their would be victims. They, however, agreed to shoot and kill anybody that identified Ojo.
