A man has been left completed devastated after going in to check on his son only to find the boy dead in his bed.

Jack Dunn

A father found his 17-year-old son dead from  a burst appendix hours after doctors sent him home from hospital with a suspected appendicitis.

According to Daily Mail UK, Jack Dunn, of Porth in Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales, was sent to Royal Glamorgan Hospital on April 7 by GPs.

But even though the teenager was unable to walk due to the excruciating pain, he was sent home from A&E that day.

His family put him to bed and periodically checked on him but when his father, Kieron, went to check on him at 11pm that evening, he found his son had died.

Lisa Dobbs, a family friend, said Jacks death had been 'devastating' for everyone.

She added: 'Jack was in so much pain he couldn't even walk across the road to the doctor's surgery. His mum had to drive him there and they sent him straight to hospital.

'When they got home she put him in her bed because all parents know that sleep is the best thing when children are ill.

'They kept checking on him, but when his dad went up to check about 11pm, he had passed away.'

Now friends have set up a JustGiving fundraising page to help Kieron, Jack's mother Claire, sister Taylor, 23, brother Callum, 19, and younger brother Jamie, 10.

A total of £524 has been raised so far.

Lisa, who has been friends with Claire since Jack was in primary school and set up the fundraising page, said: 'We are currently trying to raise funds for his funeral. We don't save for things like funerals, we save for holidays Christmas and birthdays, no parents should suffer the loss of a child.

'Jack was bright, funny, kind and loving, he never hurt anyone. He went through school and passed with high grades.

'The local community has been fantastic and very supportive.'

Tributes have also been posted for the family on the fundraising site at JustGiving.com

His tutor, Donna Jones, revealed that he achieved 100 per cent in a test before he died and was the only person in the class with the mark.

She wrote on the page: 'Jack was a kind sensitive boy. He was always happy to help. He was achieving high grades at college and was always happy to help his peers. I'm devastated I never got to tell him he achieved 100% in his exam.

'Sending my sincere condolences to his family at this devastating time.'

Hollie Pryce said: 'Fly high buddy. Never forgotten, will always be in our hearts.'

Yvonne Williams said: 'No parent should have to bury their 17-year-old. This is just so devastating. Me and Tyrone will really miss little Jack.'

Cwm Taf University Health Board said it does not comment on individual cases.
