Abia State Governor has expressed deep satisfaction with the improved operational efficiency and combat readiness of officers and men of the Abia State Command of the Nigeria Police.
The Nigeria Police Command in Abia State has paraded about 100 suspected arm robbers, arrested in several well-coordinated operations across the State.
The suspected criminals who were paraded Tuesday formed part of the vicious network of arm robbers that have unleashed terror and violent crimes on the residents of Aba, Umuahia and other major towns in the State.
Speaking during the parade, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ene Okon, explained that arms and ammunition of different kinds numbering above 105 were also recovered from the suspects who have been responsible for the spike in incidences of armed robbery, kidnapping and cultism in the recent past in the state.
Meanwhile, Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, has expressed deep satisfaction with the improved operational efficiency and combat readiness of officers and men of the Abia State Command of the Nigeria Police.
This was contained in a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Onyebuchi Ememanka, and made available to reporters in Umuahia on Wednesday morning.
According to the governor, “I want to commend and salute the gallantry and exceptional courage of the officers and men of the Abia State Police Command led by the Commissioner, Mr. Ene Okon in combating crimes in the state.
“It is gratifying to note that these unprecedented number of arrests and recovery of this huge cache of arms and ammunition happened within the last three weeks, a period that coincided with the donation by our administration, of 30 brand new Security Patrol Vehicles to different arms of the nation’s Security Agencies operating in the state. I am profoundly pleased that our modest efforts in this direction yielded immediate dividends and this has emboldened us to do more.
“We shall spare no efforts in securing the lives and property of our people and we shall commit more resources to help equip our security agencies and improve the welfare of the officers, with a view to enhancing their operational efficiency and combat readiness of the security forces”.
Assuring of a more sustained fight against criminals in the State, Ikpeazu stated, “More than ever before, we are determined to take the fight to the criminals. In the coming weeks, Abians will witness a fresh impetus and a revitalized crime-fighting strategy. We have developed a new template for fighting crimes which revolves around improved intelligence gathering and greater inter-agency cooperation amongst the Army, Navy, Police, Civil Defence and the DSS.
“As an administration, we will not allow miscreants to take over our state. Our sustained drive for investments requires an environment that is safe and secure, and as such, no efforts will be spared to rid the state of criminals. I’m advising criminal elements in the state to seek refuge elsewhere, as his government will make the state too hot for them to operate”.
