Why It's Difficult For Eastern Nigerian Artistes To Successfully Break Into Mainstream Market - Wizboyy

High life singer, Wizboyy, in a recent interview, explained some of the challenges encountered by artistes based in the East, who try to break into the Lagos market.

Popular high life singer, Wizboyy, has opened up on what he considers reasons why certain established artistes from Eastern part of Nigeria have not been able to successfully break into the mainstream market.

The 'screen saver' singer, who is also a music producer, spoke to Pulse TV.

On the challenges involved in making the shift from Eastern Nigeria, to Lagos, which is undoubtedly Nigeria's entertainment hub, Wizboyy said: "It's quite a tough one, you know the music industry right now. It is demanding and competitive".

He continues: "It's difficult to actually say what and why. It is a known fact that it gets to a point in your career, you need to move to where the market is, which is Lagos.

"You do a song, and it's everywhere, and you're in Enugu hearing that your song is here, your song is there. You get to a point where you know that this is the focal point where you can actually sell and break out to the international community. So I think it is very necessary for any artiste, wherever you are to be able to know when to shift your market… even if you don't relocate, you need to make contact, form alliances with people who would help you push your music to the next level".

When asked why certain artistes such as Dekumzy, Slow Dog, and TJ, who are popular in the East have failed to make a headway into the mainstream market, he was optimistic, stating that the named artistes aren't exactly doing bad, using Phyno as an example.

"I wouldn’t say these names you mentioned, these guys didn't do it, sometimes you try…but most Eastern artistes are actually doing good. Phyno is doing very good",
Wizboyy noted.
