Bishops Endorse Tinubu for 2027 Re-Election

The Charismatic Bishops Conference of Nigeria has endorsed President Bola Tinubu to run for re-election in 2027.

The group's leader, Archbishop Leonard Bature Kawas, announced the backing at the bishops' yearly meeting on Wednesday.

He said the bishops studied Tinubu's administration and found that despite running on a Muslim-Muslim ticket, the President appointed Christian leaders fairly and even helped Christian governors become the majority in Nigeria.

Kawas praised Tinubu for standing with Christianity alongside his wife and commended the ruling political party for appointing a born-again Christian and gospel preacher as its national leader.

The bishops said they would continue supporting Tinubu through prayers and by backing the programmes they believe will help develop Nigeria.

Kawas told the President that the bishops stand with him and will continue to support him if he chooses to run again in 2027.

Kawas added that Tinubu responded to the bishops' earlier request to speak with US President Donald Trump about Nigeria's security problems.

The archbishop also called on the Federal Government to include religious leaders, both Christian and Muslim, in government appointments instead of leaving them out of the selection process.

Government officials at the event included the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and the Minister of Information.
