Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun wants to bring down the cost of food and other basic goods.
He plans a government backed bulk buying scheme that will run through a planned Gateway Trading Corporation.
The idea is to buy in large amounts so households can pay less.
He said the suggestion came from the state NLC chairman, Hameed Ademola-Benco.
He also promised more mass transit buses for government workers and other residents, to cut travel costs and make daily commuting easier.
Speaking at a meeting with labour leaders from the Ijebu area in Ijebu-Ode, Abiodun also addressed concerns about leave allowances and the Contributory Pension Scheme.
He said the issues are being looked into.
On education, he said his government has built or renovated about 1,600 classrooms and hired hundreds of teachers over the past seven years.
He praised Ogun teachers and students for their recognition at national and international levels.
Labour leaders thanked him for paying salaries and allowances on time, making promotions and clearing gratuities and pensions.
They asked for a review of the pension scheme, a Ministry of Labour Affairs and more funding for tertiary institutions.
They also pledged their support for APC candidates in the 2027 elections.
