The Osun State Government has brought back a compulsory weekly environmental sanitation exercise.
It applies to markets, shops, malls, offices and other business premises across the state.
The aim is to stop people dumping waste in unauthorised places and to prevent disease.
The exercise runs every Thursday from 8:00am to 10:00am and takes effect immediately.
Governor Ademola Adeleke approved it.
Market operators, shop owners, artisans, office workers and other business owners must be present during those two hours to clean their premises.
The directive was issued by Samuel Ayanleye Aina, Head of Service and chairman of the newly set up Osun State Environmental Sanitation Task Force.
The task force will deal with improper waste disposal and other environmental offences.
Law enforcement agents will monitor the exercise.
The government says their role is to support the clean up, not to arrest anyone.
Aina urged residents and business owners to take part fully.
