Abia State University, Uturu, has warned staff that serious disciplinary action will follow for misconduct.
The warning is in an internal memo dated October 12, 2026, signed by Acting Registrar Dr Joy Nwankwo.
The memo was addressed to all teaching and non-teaching staff and was obtained by a reporter on Thursday.
The Governing Council said many staff are breaking the rules that govern their conditions of service.
The breaches listed include selling textbooks directly to students, despite the Senate's position against it, and frequent lateness or absence without permission.
Staff are also accused of extorting money from staff and students for routine official services.
Other offences include failing to return after approved study, sabbatical or annual leave while still collecting salaries, and making negative remarks about the university's Visitor and management.
Some staff reportedly hire casual workers to do their jobs while they stay away from their posts.
The memo also cites staff who use course representatives to exploit students, fail to upload exam results as required, or use students to invigilate exams.
The Council said it is unhappy with these violations.
It has decided that anyone found guilty of them will face serious disciplinary measures.
