Amidst the controversy surrounding the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, activist Deji Adeyanju insisted on Saturday that the National Nigerian Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) should also be investigated for transferring funds into private accounts.

Speaking on Arise TV, Adeyanju alleged that billions of dollars are transferred into private accounts without anybody monitoring.

He urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to probe all ministries and not Edu alone.

According to Adeyanju: “I would not be in a hurry to praise the president over Betta Edu’s suspension. She is just one among the ministers. There is nothing that Edu is doing that other ministers are not doing.

“Even NNPC and CBN are transferring money into private accounts. NNPC can transfer billion of dollars into private account without anybody monitoring.

“I can provide audited and evidence accounts of payment into private accounts. Even these people who just took over from Emefiele are transferring into private accounts.

“If EFCC wants to fight corruption, they should not just pick up an individual but it should cut across the board, I have evidence to prove this claim.”

DAILY POST reports that leaked memo indicted Edu of approving the payment of N585 million social intervention funds into the private account of a civil servant.

Following the disclosure, President Bola Tinubu suspended Edu while ordering the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to thoroughly investigate the scandal.
