Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has conveyed his sorrow regarding the tragic demise of three medical students from Abia State University, Uturu.

It was gathered that the incident occurred last week Thursday evening at the Nunya axis of the Enugu Port Harcourt Expressway.

The students were said to be heading for their base in Aba after attending the induction ceremony of their senior colleagues at the Uturu main campus of the university.

The Public Relations Officer of the university, Chijioke Nwogu, confirmed the incident.

Governor Otti in a statement on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Kazie Uko regretted that Abia State lost the young medical students at a time the government was making serious progress at revamping both the education and health sectors of the state’s economy.

He said, “This is particularly painful to me because the graduation ceremony they attended was the first since accreditation for the training of doctors was restored to the College of Medicine Abia State University and the Abia State University Teaching Hospital, Aba, by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, after over two years of suspension under the previous government in the state.

He said, “I have already dispatched two senior members of the Abia State Government to convey our commiserations and offer of support in this moment of grief to the parents and guardians of the five students involved in the accident, including the two, who survived.

While further using the medium to console the deceased families, Governor Otti sympathized with the authorities of the Abia State University, Uturu on the tragic incident and prayed to almighty God to comfort all and heal the pains of this sad incident.
