The Kano State government has relaxed the curfew that was imposed due to the violence and looting during the #EndBadGovernance protests in the state.
The State’s Commissioner of Information, Baba Halilu Dantiye, announced the lifting of the curfew on Monday evening.
“Due to the relative peace that has been recorded in the state in the past few days, the governor has decided to withdraw the curfew completely,” Dantiye stated.
The nationwide protest, which began across Nigerian states on August 1 and ended on August 10, was marred with violence in some places, including Kano.
The demonstration resulted in instances of violence, vandalism, and looting across various areas of Kano city, leading the State government to implement stringent measures to restore peace and order.
The curfew, which was enforced for a duration of 12 days, was partially lifted on two occasions to enable residents to engage in essential activities.
The complete cessation of the curfew marked a return to normalcy within the state.
Dantiye also expressed the governor’s gratitude to the citizens of Kano State for their commitment to maintaining peace during recent mass prayer events aimed at alleviating the economic difficulties faced by the nation.
He encouraged the populace to continue their cooperation with the government and security forces to uphold the peace.
“The government is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents,” Dantiye added, calling for continued vigilance and collaboration between the public and security operatives.
