Recall that the police had warned that a warrant of arrest would be issued if Ajaero failed to appear for interrogation on Tuesday (today).
The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has reacted to allegations by the Nigeria Police against its National President, Joe Ajaero.
Recall that the police linked Ajaero to terrorism financing, treasonable felony and other related offenses.
Recall also that the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) on Monday invited Joe Ajaero for questioning over allegations of terrorism financing, treasonable felony, cybercrime and other related offenses.
The invitation was contained in a letter dated August 19, 2024, and signed by ACP Adamu Muazu on behalf of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Intelligence Response Team.
According to the letter, sighted by our correspondent, the police warned that a warrant of arrest would be issued if Ajaero failed to appear for interrogation on Tuesday (today).
The spokesperson for the Congress, Benson Upah, denied the police’s claims.
He questioned how any member of the congress could be involved in financing terrorism when they are struggling to feed.
“Let me tell you, we don’t even have money to eat; where is the money we are going to use to finance terrorism? I laugh!
“In this country, when we talk about people who care about sovereignty, dignity, and safety, it is us, the citizens.
“We see it as an inalienable duty and responsibility to keep this country safe for every one of us.”
When asked if the NLC president would be honouring the invitation, Benson said, “We are law-abiding citizens. If there is any need for our attention, we are duty-bound to honour such invitations.”
