How 30 Natives Were K!lled By Terrorists, 707 Displaced In Kwara Attacks – Plateau Council Boss Reveals

Gwong Song, Deputy Chairman of Riyom Local Government Area, confirmed that more than 30 council indigenes were k!lled when terrorists attacked Woro community on February 3, 2026.

Song who made the disclosure during an interaction with journalists on Tuesday, said the attack also led to the displacement of over 500 of the council’s indigenes, mostly natives of Ganawuri community who had travelled to Kwara for farming and commercial activities.

During the interaction, the Deputy chairman lamented that the impact of the violence has left relatives of the victims devastated following the loss of their loved ones.

While describing the situation as painful and sad, Song said information reaching the council shows that thus far, the number of persons displaced has risen to 707, with some managing to return home while others are still stranded in Kwara.

Song stated that so far, 200 indigenes have returned home after the council chairman sent the sum of N3m for them to get vehicles so that they could get back home.

“Those who have returned are managing to put up with their loved ones. As it is right now, we are going to have a meeting with the executive chairman regarding this because we are organising a special day for those who lost their lives,” Song said.

“We have about 30 of them that lost their lives, and as a community, it is very painful for us. We are organising the special day on Thursday in their honour and remembrance,” the deputy chairman added.

He, however, clarified that the returnees were not in formal IDP camps but are staying with relatives and family members who provided shelter amid the destruction.

While four members of the community who were injured in the attack and are receiving treatment in Kwara, about 10 others are still held captive by the attackers, he informed.
