The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ondo State has called on all eligible voters in the state to register for their voter cards before Sunday, July 26.

Dr Mutiu Agboke, INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Ondo State, made the call on Wednesday while monitoring the ongoing phase 3 extension of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in the state.

Agboke visited registration centres including the INEC Registration Centre along Oda Road, Akure; St. Anthony RCM Primary School, Araromi Akure; and St. Stephen Anglican Primary School, Idanre, in Idanre Local Government Area, among others.

The REC, who emphasised the importance of the CVR exercise despite the approaching deadline, said eligible voters who refused to participate were being insensitive to their civic responsibility.

He noted that Nigerians often complain about being disenfranchised by INEC, but stressed that deliberately choosing not to participate despite being aware of the campaign amounts to voluntarily excluding oneself from the coming election, pointing out that eligibility to vote depends on having one's name and particulars in the register of voters.

Agboke, however, expressed satisfaction with the exercise in Ondo State and urged eligible voters to continue registering and to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), assuring both those who have already registered and those who would do so before Sunday that their PVCs would be ready ahead of the 2027 general election.
