A young boy has been made to face the wrath of the law after he was found out to have carried out a grievous crime.
Emmanuel Usman, a 17-year-old student, has been sentenced to two months imprisonment by a Dutse Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Wednesday for snatching a handbag.
Usman, a resident of SCC Road, Bwari, was charged with criminal conspiracy and theft.
Presiding Judge Ado Ahmed convicted Usman who pleaded guilty to the offence.
The judge, however, gave him an option of N2, 000 fine.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Mrs Agnes Adewunmi-Aluko, told the court that one Nnaona Chidera reported the matter at the Bwari Police Station on March 24.
According to Adewunmi-Aluko, the convict and one Ifeanyi Ogbonna, who is still at large, snatched the complainant’s bag, opposite Esu Road, Bwari, at about 2.30 p.m. on the same day.
According to her, items in the bag included a Tecno 13 cell phone valued at N17, 000, a power bank valued at N3, 000, Secondary School second term result sheet and N4,000 cash.
She said that the convict was caught and during police investigation, some of the items were found in his possession.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Sections 97 and 287 of the Penal Code.
