The Principal of Igbobi College, Ven. Joseph Adediji, has emphasised the importance of moral values alongside academic achievement, describing strong character as an essential ingredient of true success.
Adediji made the remarks at the school's Academic and Behavioural Awards Ceremony held on Wednesday at the college premises in Yaba, Lagos.
He explained that the event was designed not only to celebrate academic brilliance but also to honour students who displayed resilience, discipline and positive behaviour throughout the year.
He stressed that academic performance alone does not define excellence, noting that the real measure of a student lies in how their intelligence is paired with values such as integrity, empathy, respect and perseverance.
He also reminded students that excellence extends to how they treat and relate with those around them.
Addressing the award recipients, the principal commended them for demonstrating leadership both in their studies and in their conduct, praising them for showing kindness, maintaining focus amid distractions and uplifting their school community.
He also expressed appreciation to parents, guardians and teachers for the role they played in supporting the students, noting that the young people did not reach their milestones alone.
Adediji concluded by encouraging all students to continue striving for excellence while keeping their character intact, describing knowledge as a powerful tool but character as the compass that guides one through life.
He urged them to remain curious, focused and respectful in all they do.
