EFCC Boss Raises Alarm Over How Public Money Is Being Stolen

EFCC boss Ola Olukoyede says Nigerian politicians are stealing public money constantly.

Speaking at a birthday event in Abuja on Thursday, he painted a grim picture of systemic looting that comes across his desk every single day.

The anti-graft agency receives over 20,000 corruption complaints yearly, and most are stomach-turning.

Olukoyede outlined the pattern that keeps emerging: a public official starts a job with barely 100,000 naira in the bank.

Three years later, EFCC investigators trace millions of dollars back to the same person.

Some build hundreds of houses while collecting a government salary.

The resources disappear. Nigerians pay the price.

"Every minute, public officers take money," Olukoyede said, urging the country to wake up.

"And if you go through some of our case files you will weep.

The way people take national resources and Nigerians are victims of these fraudulent activities.

And we must come together for once in our lifetime and say no to the activities of some of our leaders."

He stressed that corruption is actively destroying Nigeria.

Public officers must be held to account for what happens on their watch.

Accountability and transparency have to become the rule in government, not the exception.

Without it, theft from the public purse will keep draining the country.
