Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu has approved a petition from the family of late singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, asking for a fresh and thorough investigation into his death.

The family shared this through its lawyer, Oladayo Ogungbe, in a statement dated September 29, 2026.

It said the police re-investigation is still going on despite the recent dismissal of a suit by the Federal High Court in Abuja.

According to the statement, the family sent the petition to the IGP on April 14, 2026, and it was received at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on May 7.

The petition raised concerns about inconsistencies in the earlier investigation and called for a full forensic reconstruction of the events around Mohbad's death.

The lawyers said the IGP approved the petition and sent it to the Lagos State Police Command for immediate action.

The family was later told it had been assigned to officers of the Special Enquiry Bureau.

The family's representative has since been invited and has met with the new team of investigators, and the family has kept following up with them.

The statement followed the dismissal on September 25, 2026, of Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/363/2026 by the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Ogungbe stressed that the suit was separate from the family's petition and was not filed by the Aloba family or with its approval.

The family does not want the public to mix up the dismissal of that suit with the police process already started through its petition, and said the dismissal did not end the police investigation.

The family said it will keep cooperating with investigators by providing information, documents, witnesses and other materials.

It urged the police to carry out the probe with diligence, independence and professionalism and to look at all relevant persons and circumstances.

The lawyers said the family is not trying to prejudge the outcome or push a trial by media, but wants a credible and transparent process that can establish the facts.

The statement ended by saying the re-investigation is ongoing, the family remains fully engaged and the pursuit of justice for Mohbad continues.
