The African Democratic Congress Presidential Campaign Council, ADC-PCC, has warned the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, not to tilt the 2027 general election in favour of the ruling APC.
The council said this on Wednesday after INEC's World Press Conference on Tuesday.
In a statement by its Director of Media and Publicity, Kola Ologbondiyan, the council said the election will only be credible if INEC stays neutral and makes sure people who register to vote can also collect their Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs.
He said the ADC presidential candidate is ready for the election as long as the process is free, fair and credible.
Ologbondiyan said reading out registration figures means nothing.
What counts is how many cards people actually collect, because a name in a register gives no power on election day, but a PVC in hand does.
The council claimed there are delays and red tape at PVC collection centres, especially in opposition strongholds, and warned that no Nigerian should be shut out of the election because of such problems.
It urged INEC to be independent and not take orders from the APC.
The ADC said it will insist that the Constitution and the Electoral Act are followed and is watching every step INEC takes.
It asked INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan to move PVC collection to the ward level, extend collection hours and use technology to alert voters when their cards are ready.
