Shocker: Mother Drives Her Daughter's Dead Body for 2 Days Before Crashing and Dragging It Into the Forest

A woman has driven around in her car carrying the dead body of her deceased daughter for as many as two days.

Erica Newsome drove around with her daughter's dead body

Erica Newsome, a 37-year-old mother drove around with the body of her 11-year-old daughter for two days before crashing her truck and dragging her corpse through a woodland, police claim.

The Pocahontas Times reports that Erica Newsome was allegedly pulling Kaye-lea Plummer’s dead body after colliding into a roadside guard rail on Friday.

The mum then reportedly told cops that she left her home in Jacksonville, Florida, to drive to Kaye-lea’s dad’s home in New York.

State Police Sgt Herby Barlow told the newspaper that the child did not die from the collision.

But a motorist spotted Newsome pulling what appeared to be a body from the damaged car and dragging it over the embankment, authorities said.

Kaye-lea’s body was allegedly kept in the boot of the car and covered with a blanket during the car journey.

The car accident happened on Sunday near Thornwood, about a mile and a half into the West Virginia state line.

Police and rescue services were on the scene just before midday.

A couple from New York stopped and claimed they saw Newsome remove a body from the vehicle and drag it over the hill.

Sgt Barlow said the woman and the body of her daughter were found on an old logging road approximately 150 feet over the embankment.

He told them: “It was obvious that the 11-year-old did not die from injuries from the accident. Her injuries were non-motor vehicle injuries.”

Newsome allegedly told cops that she had killed her daughter – who had been dead for about 24 hours – and was abusive to her.

She has now been jailed on a $50,000 (£38,500) bail charged with concealing a body at the Southern Regional Jail.

Sgt Barlow added: “It is still a very active investigation.”

The local paper said Newsome also told the authorities the child’s dad lived in Buffalo – which is where she planned to go.

Newsome was having issues with her vehicle and said she did not want to travel on interstates and that is how she ended up in Thornwood.

“If she hadn’t been discovered [by the couple] I wouldn’t have known about the child. She would have been reported missing,” said Sgt Barlow.

“If she [Newsome] had been with the vehicle, it would have been a difficult story. We would have treated it like any vehicle accident and called a wrecker.”
