Super Eagles striker, Kelechi Iheanacho made history on Tuesday night when he became the first player in English football to score a goal following an overturned decision by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system.

According to Independent UK, Leicester City were leading 1-0 against Fleetwood Town in the FA Cup third-round replay at the King Power Stadium when Iheanacho was slipped through on goal by Rihad Mahrez.

He deftly finished, only to turn and see the flag raised, but referee Jon Moss paused the game while the VAR checked the decision, before concluding that the forward had been fractionally onside.

Afterwards Iheanacho said he was only focused on putting the ball into the net as Leicester went on to win the game 2-0 following an opener also scored by the Nigerian international.

“I didn’t know if I was onside or offside but I agree totally now that I was onside,” Iheanacho told BT Sport. “I was concentrating on the goal, I didn’t think if I was onside or offside but Riyad (Mahrez) told me that I was onside. We just waited to see what the decision was.”
