If you have been wondering whether someone you like actually likes you back, then this may be the help you have been seeking.

Figuring out whether or not your crush likes you back can be seriously frustrating – but it turns out that there’s an easy trick when it comes to knowing for certain.

Apparently, all you have to do is try to make the object of your desire laugh - if they chuckle back, you’re in with a chance.

If someone fancies you, they’re more likely to find you funny and laugh at your jokes – even if they’re not that good.

But if the potential date doesn’t find you attractive they probably won’t crack a smile at anything you say - even if it’s really funny.

Psychologists tested out the theory in three studies that have now been published in the Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin journal.

Researchers said: “Both sexes were more likely to initiate humour and to respond more positively and consider the other person to be funny when initially attracted to that person.”

And having a laugh doesn’t just reveal a person’s feelings about you - being funny also makes you more attractive.

According to a 2009 study, both men and women found having a poor sense of humour unattractive – making you instantly less attractive than someone who is really funny.
