The suspected thief being burnt
The trend of jungle justice seems to be on the increase in Nigeria today. Angry residents under the guise of frustration tend to take the laws into their hands and get away with the crimes.
A fresh case in hand occurred this morning, Wednesday the 19th of August at the Apapa area of Lagos state involving a suspected car thief who was set on fire by an angry mob. He was accused of stealing the brain box of a parked car.
Residents revealed the ugly incident took place at Isikalu Street Junction, Olodi-Apapa, in Ajeromi/Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state when the young man was nabbed in the act of vandalising a car. The unlucky thief was nabbed as early as 4am today and then tied up to prevent him from escaping after intensive beating.
The angry resident who complained about incessant cases of car thefts and vandalism ignored the pleas of some other residents and set suspect ablaze at 6am. A man who witnessed the scene said the irate youth brought used tyres, petrol and a match box with which they burnt the thief, causing a snarl of traffic in the area.
He said, “People in the area are not happy about how the brain boxes of their vehicles usually develop wings overnight. Many vehicles in the area have been vandalised and many of the parts removed."
