Actor Deyemi Okanlawon has disclosed that he quit acting in 2019 because he was unfulfilled by the job and found the remuneration inadequate.
The actor discussed his career experience during a recent interview on the CreativiTea podcast.
He explained that his decision to leave the industry stemmed from frustration with both the quality of roles available and the compensation attached to them at the time.
According to him, he felt he had left a conventional 9-to-5 job only to be engaged in work he considered mediocre.
He noted that the lack of fulfilment made it difficult to continue, leading him to return to corporate employment.
“So, I quit acting in 2019. I quit because the pay and the work were nonsense. And I just felt like I didn't leave 9-5 work to come and do mediocre work.
It was difficult to wake up in the morning and go to work, and what is the point of being passionate about something and then not being fulfilled by it.
So I quit and then went back to 9-5 work,” he said.
Okanlawon has since returned to acting and is now regarded as one of Nollywood's leading actors in film and television.
