Senator Biodun Olujimi from Ekiti State has taken over the seat of erstwhile Minority Leader in the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, as National Assembly resumes after its recess.

The new Nigerian Senate Minority Leader, Senator Biodun Olujimi (PDP, Ekiti South), on Tuesday, took over her seat, having replaced the former minority leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio, who recently dumped the PDP for APC.

Olujimi had been the deputy minority whip.

Since Akpabio’s departure to the APC, his position became vacant, although the Senate had been on recess until its resumption yesterday.

At the resumption of plenary, Olujimi was seen occupying Akpabio’s seat, a development that gave credence to speculations that she was nominated to take over as minority leader.

Though there was no formal announcement confirming her as the new minority leader, Olujimi was seen sitting very close to her deputy, Senator Emmanuel Bwacha, the Senate Deputy Minority Leader.

She becomes the second woman to hold the position after Senator Florence Ita-Giwa who held the position briefly in the 4th Senate.
