The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, on Monday said his focus would be on education, job creation, and youth empowerment if elected.

The former vice president spoke at a town hall meeting he had with youths in Lagos. He promised that 40 per cent of the people in his government would be youths while his Minister of Youth would be less than 30 years.

Atiku said, “I believe in creating jobs and I am creating jobs for the youth.

“Our President said the economy is in bad shape and he told the governors it is going to be worse. Is this the kind of government that you want to return to power?

“Do you know that in this government, there is no single economist? So, they don’t know how to manage the economy. Our lives, whether young or old, depend on the economy.

“We must invest seriously in education to be able to produce youths that will be beneficial to themselves and the country.”

He said his government would give incentives to the private sector and create an enabling environment for them to thrive in order to create more jobs.

Atiku’s running mate, Peter Obi, said it was important for the Federal Government to invest more in education.

“I want Nigerian youths to listen; do not vote Buhari again. They are giving you N10,000 today, I don’t know anywhere in the world where they give people money in the market the way they are doing now. This is vote-buying,” Obi said.

The National Chairman of the PDP, Uche Secondus  said Nigeria was being governed by “a college of presidents.”

He alleged that the Presidency had been highjacked by a cabal.
