Police Arraign Man Who Specializes in Forging Italian, German Visas

A man who specializes in forging visas for clients has been nabbed and arraigned in court by the police on charges of theft and forgery.

 
 
39-year-old Agbaje Muyiwa was arraigned before an Ejigbo Senior Magistrate Court for allegedly forging Italian and German visas worth N207,000. Muyiwa is standing trial on a six-count-charge of felony, forgery, fraud, unlawful possession and theft.

According to the police prosecutor, Muyiwa committed the act with one Sunday in September 2014 at Abesan Estate in Ipaja, a suburb of Lagos. He said Muyiwa collected the sum of N550,000 from one Mr. Ehigozie Sammy with the pretext of procuring a German visa for him but failed to deliver the said visa. He later collected the sum of N207, 000 from Ehigozie again saying he will use it to arrange a hotel reservation in Italy for him.

The police prosecutor also revealed that later, Muyiwa forged an Italian visa and gave it to Ehigozie as a genuine visa. The Prosecutor, Sgt. Lucky Ilevbare, told the court that the act contravened Sections 409, 312 and 363 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 312(3) prescribes that any offender is guilty of a felony and is liable to imprisonment for 15 years.

Muyiwa pleaded not guilty to all the charges against him.

However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges. The Magistrate, Mrs J.O. Adeyemi, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in the like sum.

Adeyemi said that the sureties must present three years’ tax clearance from the Lagos State Government. She, then, adjourned the case to Nov. 4 for mention.
