Olanrewaju said the circular was shared by some individuals who are aware of the management’s intention but still want to “mislead” the public.
The Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) has said viral circular announcing a new dress code for students of the univerrsity didn't come from the school.
This followed rumours on Monday claiming the institution recently unveiled the new dress codes for students.
However, in an interview with TheCable, on Wednesday, Abiodun Olanrewaju, the OAU spokesperson, said although the varsity authorities will soon announce a new dress policy, “the now-viral circular was not from the management”.
Olanrewaju said the circular was shared by some individuals who are aware of the management’s intention but still want to “mislead” the public.
He also warned that even though the institution respects the rights of the students, “we cannot entertain indecency within the university”.
“You see, that trending item did not emanate from the school management. But I can assure you that we are working on something similar,” he said.
“Those that pushed out such item knew we were working on something. Something similar. But these people are trying to mislead the students and the public for their own gain.
“However, you will agree with me that we cannot entertain indecency within the university in the name of freedom.
“We understand that the students have their fundamental human rights, but there must be a difference between a school and a brothel.
“You cannot be coming to a class dressed as if you are coming from a night party.”
